Encouraging Message:
What does spiritual connection mean to you?
For some, it means having a relationship with a higher power—a being or force that continually offers support and guidance. For others, it involves an inner power, one that can be found by tuning in deep within. Many people see spirituality as an interconnectedness between everything on this planet and beyond. Perhaps it is all of these ideas combined, or maybe it is nothing at all.
There are those that believe the road to spirituality is one of simplicity—that it can be “achieved” by slowing down and tuning into the essence of peace. In the pursuit of a spiritual life, some choose to detach from certain modern societies to find stillness in isolation, while others find their spiritual connection in the heart of the mundane moments of their daily life.
Spirituality can look different to each of us, and while some find it within the walls of an institution and within the teachings of organized belief systems, others find it out in nature, choosing to pave their own holy trail. An old Chinese proverb reads, “There are many paths to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same.” So while some people fight over which higher power is right, there is great peace to be found in simply allowing each person to have their own freedom of belief—and freedom of practice.
What is so beautiful about spirituality is that every person around the world has a unique perspective—shaped by different cultures, teachings, and life experiences—and we can all learn from, and be inspired by, one another.
From my perspective, it doesn’t matter what you call your higher power, or what it looks like to you—as long as your beliefs are rooted in love, all is well. That’s it. And as far as spiritual connection goes, any practice that guides you deeper into this heart of universal love—for me anyway, that’s what it’s all about.
“Love makes the world go ‘round." These words have been spoken and sung for years, and they ring true. Love connects us to one another, to the earth, to ourselves, and to our purpose (if you believe in such a thing). If each person invokes more love on a daily basis and shares it with those around them, we can all help make this world a kinder and safer place to live. By focusing more on what connects us than on what divides us, we can create more harmony in our lives. What do you think?
Reflective Prompts:
-
What does your higher power look like, and what are its characteristics and qualities?
-
What are some things that you can do on a daily basis to strengthen your spiritual connection?
-
What does having this spiritual connection do for you? How does it benefit others, and the world?
-
Are there any beliefs you need to let go of in order to feel more at peace, and more free?
Closing:
No matter what you believe in—whether it's a big external force, or nothing at all—I think we can all agree that our beliefs hold power. It’s not so much about what you believe, but what those beliefs do for you—and for those around you. Having some sort of spiritual connection can help bring more intention and presence into your daily life, and can help guide you through the hardest of moments.
Furthermore, in discovering what you believe in—constructing your own personal belief system—and cultivating some sort of practice around this, you can help bring more confidence, joy, and light into your life, and to the lives of those around you. Above all, just remember that it is your freedom to choose, and that in itself is a wonderful thing.
