Encouraging Message:
You’ve probably heard it said not to take life so seriously—or maybe not take yourself so seriously, right? This is a great reminder, but it’s sometimes challenging to put into practice—especially when most of us live in a world with so many demands, expectations, problems, and responsibilities. How can we possibly remember to have fun during the busyness of daily life, and how would we ever get anything accomplished if we made relaxation and play our priorities? Isn't that just for kids?
Introducing some more creativity and aliveness into your day can actually help you be more productive—by helping you feel better, you tend to make better choices, and when you feel good, your energy levels are higher, so you tend to get more done. Adding a sense of curiosity to your day also helps you to stay present—not wishing for things to get better in the future, or dwelling on the sweet memories of the past—just being grateful for what you have in the now. You can use the powerful magic of fun to help draw you into a practice of mindfulness, and in your small moments, you can even magnetize your greatest dreams and wildest desires just by choosing to feel good.
On one hand, adding adventure and passion to your life can look like a drastic shift—you quit your corporate job and decide to pack everything you own into a backpack and travel the world for the rest of your days. Or on a smaller scale, you could make a few small shifts to add a little more fun to the mundane routine of your daily life.
If you get a ten-minute break throughout your day, maybe switch it up and go for a scenic walk, listening to your favorite songs that make you feel good. Or maybe add a little color to your outfit to help you feel more inspired and expressive. Surround your workspace with encouraging quotes or jokes to add a little bit of light and laughter into your day. Again, the emotions of passion, humor, and joy actually help us be more productive. When we are feeling good—when we are inspired—we are more energized than if we are bored and feeling dull.
To add some excitement to your life, you could try out a new coffee shop in your area, wander down a new path, join a new club, do something you’ve never done before. There are many, many ways to spice up your moments and you can have these changes be as big or little as you want. Try incorporating some new ways of play into your daily life and witness the powerful shift this practice can have on your productivity and your overall well-being.
Reflective Prompts:
-
What are some areas of my life that could use some spicing up? (When I look at my life, where am I bored with what I see?)
-
What small changes could I add to these spaces in my life, and what’s one micro-step I could take today that would bring in some fun?
-
What are some places or events around my area that I’ve always wanted to try going to?
-
List 10 bigger dreams that maybe you haven’t allowed yourself to think of in a while (example: travel destinations, joining a club or picking up a certain hobby etc.)
-
Without doing any outer changes whatsoever, what is one inner change I could make right now—mentally and emotionally—to feel better, less serious, more relaxed, more alive, more present with the bliss and joy that is all around me in this moment?
Closing:
Life hits us with some really challenging moments sometimes, and for those it’s important to have a serious attitude. Most times, however, we could probably all benefit from lightening up a little. A little more joy, peace, laughter, fun, and exploration never hurt anyone—who doesn't want to be able to accomplish more and actually feel good in the process? If anything, cultivating the essence of fun on a daily basis can lead to a greatly rewarding and enjoyable life. Try it out, the opportunity is always here for ya.
