The journey of self love is messy, dark, and ugly.
That being said, it is a wild ride that is well worth the cost. I think a lot of people in the world struggle to love (or even like) themselves...and there can be many reasons why. Through childhood conditioning, trauma, repeat failures, etc., we're taught over and over again that we are unworthy and undeserving of love.
There's also so much media in the world that influences us into believing that we are not enough as we are - that we need to be fixed - and only in that "perfect" state, will we finally receive the love we crave.
Love is one of our basic survival needs - without it, we don't feel safe enough to create, fully express ourselves, or live the life of our dreams.
The good news is that even if the world failed to give you this love - failed to fill your inner well - you can still love yourself. Once you tap into the source of love that is always here for you, you'll find that it never runs dry.
I've spent most of my life feeling unworthy of adoration, success, and good things in general. Regardless of the life factors that brought me to this place (the stories of my past), I am here. And right now in this moment, all I can do is accept myself where I'm at, focus on picking up the pieces, and love myself back to wholeness.

Like I mentioned earlier, usually it's not the prettiest process. The self-love journey surfaces lots of tears, screams, angry journaling, raw conversations, brutal pain, and so much more. And its a practice...meaning it is something I return to over and over again - and it never really ends.
Is it worth it? YES.
Through all this mess, I find that my heart breaks open, and where there once was so much darkness - now it shines bright. I find that this love has a mind of its own, and as I surrender, I allow it to move through the deepest corners of my being, exposing all the lies I once believed, and showing me the truth of who I really am - flawless and beautiful, and worthy of adoration, praise, and all the blessings that life has to offer. Me, just exactly as I am.
No matter where you are, what has happened to you, or what you have done - this is your invitation to return home to the love within yourself.
If that idea seems too overwhelming, and you don't know where to begin, just start with this intention: I am open to showing myself a little more love today than I did yesterday, for I am worthy and deserving of it. I know this love is within me, and I choose to surrender to it, no matter what that looks like.
(Challenge: try saying these words to yourself in the mirror daily for the next week...and see what happens).
The world may have tried to convince us - in so many ways - that we are broken and unfixable. But we hold the superpower within us, and that is self love.

Note From Me:
*As I reflect back on experiences I’ve had throughout my life, I find that it brings me great joy to put them into words - to voice what I’ve been through, and to also express any insights learned from each one. Sharing stories seems to satisfy this inner yearning to leave my mark - and at the very least, it always leaves me feeling lighter and more true to myself. So that is why I write, and my intention is to uplift, entertain, and maybe even inspire others to share their own experiences with the world. We all have a story.
